The Critical Thinking Child provides one-on-one virtual tutoring for 1st through 3rd graders in reading/English Language Arts, math, and writing. Every student starts with a diagnostic assessment so their tutor knows exactly where to focus — and every 55-minute session is built around your child’s classroom curriculum, pace, and goals.

What Your Child Will Work On
Our elementary tutoring strengthens the core skills your child needs to stay on track and build confidence in the classroom.
- Reading — Fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, and grade-level text analysis
- English Language Arts — Grammar, sentence structure, spelling, and written expression
- Writing — Paragraph development, story writing, and responding to prompts
- Math — Addition, subtraction, multiplication, fractions, word problems, and grade-level concepts
Planning Ahead for Selective Enrollment?
Many families start with academic tutoring in reading/ELA and math 6–12 months before testing season. Strong classroom grades are part of the admissions formula — and building foundational skills now means your child is ready when test prep begins.
Start with our diagnostic assessment to see where your child stands, then build a tutoring plan that strengthens grades and prepares them for what’s ahead.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does virtual tutoring work for a 1st or 2nd grader?
Your child meets their tutor on Zoom for a live, interactive 55-minute session. Tutors use whiteboard activities, visual prompts, and conversation to keep young learners engaged. It’s not a lecture — it’s a real-time, hands-on learning experience tailored to your child.
What if my child is behind grade level?
That’s exactly what we’re built for. Every student starts with a diagnostic assessment that identifies specific gaps. Your child’s tutor builds a plan that targets those gaps directly — not a generic curriculum. The 8-session plan is recommended for students who need to catch up.
Will the tutor follow what my child is learning in school?
Yes. Sessions are aligned to your child’s classroom curriculum and state standards. If your child has a test coming up or is struggling with a specific unit, the tutor adjusts the session to support exactly what’s happening in the classroom.
How will I know my child is making progress?
Every student starts with a diagnostic baseline. You’ll receive progress reports tracking specific milestones in reading, math, and writing. Your tutor also communicates directly with you about your child’s growth and any adjustments to the learning plan.
What device does my child need?
A tablet or laptop with a camera and microphone, plus Zoom installed. A quiet space with stable internet is ideal. That’s it — we handle everything else.
When are sessions available?
Sessions are available Monday through Sunday, during school hours, after school, and evenings — including summer months. Daytime sessions are popular with homeschool families. We’ll match your child with a tutor who fits your family’s schedule.
