PreK-Kindergarten
The Critical Thinking Child provides test prep services to current Pre-K and kindergarten students for required admissions tests for public, private, and independent schools.
This includes:
- CPS gifted and classical K-1 (SEES)
- Gifted/Talented exams (GATE)
- Early entrance to Kindergarten
Additionally, we specialize in preparing students for standardized tests like IAR, i-Ready, Star 360 and REACH.
Gifted and Classical Test Prep BootCamp
For Kids Testing for Kindergarten
We offer Chicago-area families in-person small group classes and 1:1 tutoring for Pre-K learners ages 4-5. We also provide one-on-one test prep for selective enrollment and gifted & talented programs.
Our programs support both classical schools (reading and math) and regional gifted centers (critical thinking and problem-solving) exams, as well as the combined verbal and non-verbal cognitive test needed for GATE kindergarten admission.
To ensure success, we recommend starting test preparation early, rather than cramming at the last minute. Our experience has shown that tutoring and teaching are the most effective over a 3 to 6 month period.
*Adult supervision is required for this age group.

Gifted and Classical Test Prep BootCamp
For Kids Testing for First Grade
We offer Chicago-area families in-person small group classes and 1:1 sessions for ages 5-6. We also provide virtual one-on-one test prep sessions for gifted and talented test-takers nationwide.
Our programs support both classical achievement-based tests (reading and math) and gifted cognitive (critical thinking and problem-solving) exams. We simulate a classroom-style mock testing environment for test-takers.
Before joining our program, all students are required to complete an initial assessment. Note that microassessments are included in the bootcamp package, but the initial assessment is a separate purchase.
